The Amazon Gold Alliance (AGA) is a collaborative innovation network comprising 90+ members from 17 countries working together to address the social, environmental, and economic impacts of gold mining in the Amazon.
Launched in 2024, the AGA brings together leaders from Indigenous communities, civil society organizations, government, academics, industry, and other experts from across the whole gold supply chain.
We work together to transform the system that underpins illicit and unregulated gold mining in the region and to enable more responsible value chains, protect Amazonian ecosystems, and support the wellbeing of local communities.
Five Strategic Initiatives Work in Tandem Toward Systems Change

Expose Pathways for Illicit Gold
Understand how illicit gold enters formal markets by identifying enabling factors and mechanisms, and proposing targeted solutions to close those entry points.
Strengthen Regional Coordination
Build a shared view of regional coordination on gold mining, identify critical gaps, and drive stronger alignment across Amazon countries and institutions.

Support the Transition to Responsible Practices
Encourage safer, mercury-free approaches by improving market conditions and linking producers with buyers committed to traceability and stronger standards.
Raise Awareness and Mobilize Action
Drive public and institutional awareness about the harms of illegal gold mining particularly mercury use - through coordinated communications and advocacy strategies across sectors and regions.

Promote Financial Integrity in Gold Supply Chain
Strengthen financial oversight in the gold trade, improving Know Your Customer practices and reducing opportunities for laundering proceeds from illegal mining.
The AGA takes a systemic approach to the complex challenges of the gold supply chain in the Amazon. By linking local action to regional and global strategies, we work to develop integrated, long-term solutions.
We welcome collaboration with individuals, organizations and professionals who are committed to sustainable development in the Amazon.
